Dr. Krista Wood

Veterinarian

Originally from the dry desert of New Mexico, Dr. Krista Wood came to the east coast 3 years ago with her Marine Corps husband. She was delighted to find there are places with trees, water, and seasons! She obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in animal science from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. A brief break from the hot weather took her to Fort Collins, Colorado where she attended Colorado State University School of Veterinary Medicine. She has previously practiced in Santa Fe, New Mexico and in Sneads Ferry, North Carolina.

Dr. Wood has a passion for pets and their owners. She believes in providing the best care possible for all animals, and in keeping their families informed and reassured during the process. She is so excited to be joining the family at Hartwood Animal Hospital!

Dr. Wood has a particular interest in wildlife and exotic animal medicine. In her third year of veterinary school, she was able to fulfill a lifelong dream of visiting South Africa. She spent one month sightseeing, tracking animals and learning about preventative medicine and wildlife conservation. She has many photos and would be happy to share her experiences! (She really loves talking about it!)

Dr. Wood shares her home with her husband, John. Currently, their children include Cayman, a Labrador/Chesapeake retriever mix; Alpha, a rescued English Mastiff; and Zoe & Harley, the laziest but most mischievous and carb-loving cats alive.
