Microchipping & Tattooing

Have you ever wondered what would happen if your pet wondered off? How would you find them?

Microchipping

Home Again Microchip Close-upA microchip is a pet recovery system that will increase your chance of reuniting you with your pet.

The chip is about the size of a grain of rice and is inserted under the skin between the shoulder blades. Once implanted, you must register your pet with Home Again.

If your pet should end up at a veterinary hospital or animal shelter they will be scanned for a microchip. Once scanned, the pets unique registered number can be reported to the company and you will be contacted.

Always remember to keep Home Again up-to-date with your current address and phone number.

Tattooing

Tattooing is another pet identification method performed in the hospital. It is permanent and takes only a few minutes while under sedation to ensure the patient remains still.

Your choice of birthday, phone number or registration number can be tattooed to the inner leg or ear.

Tattooing your pet may lessen the chance of theft. In Virginia, it is illegal to house a tattooed cat that is not yours; fines can be as high as $1,000. This law may deter many people from housing your pet without trying to find the rightful owner.
