Born and raised in a small west coast town in British Columbia, Canada Dr. Rebecca Austin has lived in the United States since she was 20 years old. She is not only Canadian, but an American and Swiss citizen as well. She is well travelled having lived in Canada, the US and Thailand along with multiple trips to Europe, and Mexico. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona in 2002, and pursued her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University, graduating in 2007.
She pursued advanced training after graduating Veterinary school, completing a 1-year small animal rotating internship at The Hope Center in Vienna, VA in 2007. She stayed on to complete a 1-year small animal Internal Medicine internship from 2008-2009. Her primary focus and expertise during her Internal Medicine internship was abdominal ultrasound, along with ultrasound-guided aspirates and procedures and placing feeding tubes. She also thoroughly enjoys Ophthalmology and intensive internal medicine cases.
She practiced briefly in Maryland before moving to Southern Arizona in 2010 until June of 2015. She met her husband, Jason, during her internship in 2007 and was married shortly thereafter. She has two sons: Isaiah who is 5 years old and Noah who is 3 years old. Her fur babies include Penelope the pug, and 3 cats: One-eyed Jack, Oliver and Blu. In her free time she enjoys exploring Fredericksburg and the surrounding area, reading, movies and enjoying time with her family and friends.
